# Inventory Revaluation

An Inventory Revaluation adjusts the cost value of stock without changing its quantity. Use it to correct valuation, reflect a revised purchase cost, or align inventory value with accurate financial reporting. When approved, it updates the stock value at a center and posts the difference to your inventory and an offset account.

A revaluation changes value only — the quantity on hand never changes. The WIP option lets you target stock that is currently in production rather than finished, available stock.

Stock & Account Posting

When you approve a revaluation:

Add Value — the stock's cost value at the center is increased. The accounting entry debits the inventory account and credits the chosen On Account.

Subtract Value — the stock's cost value at the center is decreased. The accounting entry credits the inventory account and debits the chosen On Account.

Quantity on hand is never changed by a revaluation. Cancelling an approved revaluation reverses both the value change and the accounting entry.

FAQ

Does a revaluation change the quantity on hand?
No. Only the cost value of the stock changes; quantity stays the same.

When should I use Add Value versus Subtract Value?
Use Add Value when the recorded cost is too low and Subtract Value when it is too high.

Why can't I select the inventory account as the On Account?
The inventory account is one side of the entry automatically. The On Account is the offset where the value difference is recorded, so it must be a different account.

Does saving a draft revaluation post anything?
No. The value change and accounting entry post only when the revaluation is approved.

Can I edit an approved revaluation?
No. Use Master Update for the allowed header fields, or Cancel and create a new revaluation.

Why is value required on every line?
Each line must have a non-zero revaluation amount. Zero-value lines are rejected on approve.

Do serial-tracked items need serial numbers on revaluation?
Yes. Select the serial numbers being revalued so the system updates the correct units.

What is the difference between revaluation and adjustment?
Inventory Adjustment changes quantity. Revaluation changes cost value only — quantity stays the same.
