# Comments

<p class="doc-lead">Discuss a document right where it lives. The <b>Comments</b> tab on a transaction view keeps a running thread for that bill, and <b>@mentions</b> send an in-app notification to the colleague you tag.</p>

<h2 id="where">Where to find it</h2>

Open any transaction in its full view (for example a Sale Invoice, Purchase Order, or Credit Note). In the panel on the right, the bottom tabs are **History**, **Attachments**, **Sec. Status** (Secondary Status — hover the tab for the full name), and **Comments**. The Comments tab title shows the number of comments, for example **Comments (3)**.

On a narrow window, if the tabs do not fit, swipe or scroll the tab row sideways to reach Comments.

> **Note:** Comments are shown on the full-page view. If a document opened in a popup, use **Expand** or open it in a new tab to see the Comments tab.

1. Type your message in the box at the bottom of the thread.
2. Click **Comment**, or press <kbd>Ctrl</kbd> + <kbd>Enter</kbd> (<kbd>⌘</kbd> + <kbd>Enter</kbd> on Mac).

Comments appear oldest first, in the same layout as the History tab: the author's name (with <i>(you)</i> on your own comments), the message, and the time — for example <i>4 minutes ago - Sep 30, 2026 9:22 AM</i>. New comments from others appear automatically while the view is open.

<h2 id="mentions">Mention a colleague</h2>

1. Type <code>@</code> followed by part of a name or email.
2. Pick the person from the list that opens under the box (use <kbd>↑</kbd> / <kbd>↓</kbd> and <kbd>Enter</kbd> or <kbd>Tab</kbd>, or click). Press <kbd>Esc</kbd> to close the list.
3. Post the comment.

Mentions show in blue in the thread. Mentions of you are also highlighted so you can spot them quickly.

If a user has no name set in their profile, they appear and are mentioned by the first part of their email address — for example <code>@rena</code> for <i>rena@example.com</i>.

The mentioned user gets a bell notification — **you were mentioned in a comment** — naming the document. Clicking the notification opens the document with the Comments tab already selected. The document owner is also notified.

Only active users of the current company can be mentioned. You are never notified about your own mentions.

<h2 id="faq">FAQ</h2>

<p><b>I don't see the Comments tab.</b><br>
The tab is on the full-page view only. Use <b>Expand</b> on a popup, or open the document from its list. If the tab row is cut off, scroll it sideways.</p>

<p><b>Why does a colleague show as part of an email instead of a name?</b><br>
Their user profile has no name. Ask an administrator to add the name in user settings; new mentions will then use it.</p>

<p><b>Can I edit or delete a comment?</b><br>
Not at the moment. Comments are kept as a record of the discussion on the document.</p>

<p><b>Who can see comments?</b><br>
Anyone who can open the document can read its comments and add new ones.</p>

<p><b>Is there a length limit?</b><br>
Yes, up to 5,000 characters per comment.</p>
